Welcome to memoticker3,
the screen ticker for your notes & news!
MemoTicker offers an ingenious solution to two major office tasks:
Display your notes and news permanently or at selected dates. A powerful and easy to use timing control assists you with creating date-controlled notes. By just a few mouse clicks, taking just a few seconds time, you create sophisticated timings like "Show this note (or broadcast it over the network) on every last Tuesday of the month, and also on the two days before!".
MemoTicker is a tool offering both foreground and background usability. After program launch, the ticker appears on top or bottom of the screen. In section Program settings you learn how to set the ticker's position. If there are notes or news existing and their timing correspondends to current time, they will be displayed on the ticker, respectively be broadcasted. Notes without timing control will be permanently displayed or broadcasted.

The program permanently monitors all existing notes and news. According to their timing settings, the notes will appear on or disappear from the ticker.
PLEASE NOTE: If the display width of all current notes and news falls below the over-all width of the ticker, the display will be static. If it exceeds the over-all width of the ticker, the text will roll endlessly.
You can change the content and settings of your notes and news at any time - both text and timing. It is equally easy to delete notes. In chapter sysop mode you will learn more about access rights to create or change a text
Right-click anywhere on the ticker to open the main menu, and choose "New note".

Use the upper field to enter your note or news text. If you choose to display your note permanently, leave the corresponding option field checked. In section Timing you learn how to assign a timing control to your new entry. Click on "Save" to add it to the database and make it available for display on the ticker or broadcast it over the company network.

For alternative methods of multi-selecting list entries, please consult your Windows documentation.
MemoTicker offers numerous settings to display a note or message on a specific time of day and/or on specific days. Using this feature of MemoTicker enables you to set up a perfect time scheduling and, if desired, spread it over the company network in real-time.
To activate the timing control of a note or message, open it in the edit window. To do this, right-click anywhere on the ticker to open the main menu, and choose "Notes administration", or alternatively double-click anywhere on the ticker. In the appearing list overview, select the list entry you wish to edit, and click on "Edit first selected note", or alternatively double-click on selected list entry.

If you leave the box "From" empty, the note or message will be displayed from midnight till the selected end-time. If you leave the box "to" empty, it will be displayed from the selected start-time till midnight. If you leave both boxes empty, it will be displayed all day long.
In the below frame the display mode "Daily" is activated. If you do not change this setting, the note or message will be displayed, repectively broadcasted, on every day within the selected time. In addition you have the choice between the time modes "Weekly", "Monthy" and "Yearly". You activate one of these time modes by clicking on the according option fields.
Weekly:

Select the checkboxes of the weekdays you want the note or message to be displayed, repectively broadcasted. If you wish the display to start later, enter the desired date into the box "First time on". If you wish the dispay to last a certain amount of weeks only, enter the desired amount into the box "Duration". Enter "0" to display the note without a limitation of weeks.
Monthly:

Here you can select one of two modes. Entering a day into the box "Each xx of month" leads to a monthly display on this date. The below frame allows a week-related mode of display. Clicking the according option button generates the display on the first, second, third, fourth or last weekday of the month. You select the desired weekday from the weekday's list.
You can display the note (respectively broadcast the message) before the selected date, which is of use for preparations of an event. Enter the desired amount of days into the box "Starting x days earlier". If you want the display to start later, enter the desired date into the box "First time on".

Using this function, a note can be used not just for anniversaries like birthdays, but also for half-year- or quarter-events. Of course you can also set completely arbitrary displays within the year.
For each date, enter the day of month into the box "Each" or "and each" and select the desired month from the month's lists right of the text-boxes.

You complete your timing settings by clicking on "Save".
Right-click anywhere on the ticker to open the main menu, and choose "Settings". You can adjust all aspects of the program's operation in the appearing window.
Please note: You can establish an access control to program settings. Read more about it in chapters Sysop mode and Broadcast mode.

To switch on the access control to the program settings window, check the box "Enable sysop mode" and enter a password underneath. You can choose between open or concealed text entry. To switch, click on the eye symbol right of the input box.
Please note: Be sure to keep your password in mind! There is no way of access to the program settings if you forget it. To re-establish access, you would have to initialize the database, loosing all existing notes, news and settings. This is how to do it: Close MemoTicker, delete the file mt.nex in the folder "MemoTicker 3" situated in "My Documents", then launch MemoTicker again.
Click on "Deutsch" or "English" to select the according program language.
If you wish MemoTicker to stay on top of all other windows on the screen, check the according box. PLEASE NOTE: This function affects the overlap-behaviour of the program, relating to other windows. It does not affect the program's position on the screen.
Click on "Dock window above" or "Dock window below" to define the position of MemoTicker on your screen.
It could be advisable on certain monitors to decrease the ticker speed. To do this, change the setting "Default" to "Slow" oder "Very slow".
To define MemoTicker as a receiver for broadcasted news, check the box "Enable broadcast receiver mode". Learn more about this issue in chapter Broadcast mode. Please note: Do not activate this function on the computer acting as the news transmitter!
Click on the field below "Path to broadcast dispatcher database mt.nex" to set the network path to the computer holding the broadcast database. Please note: Do not enter a path on the computer transmitting the news to the company network. This computer uses its local MemoTicker database.
By clicking the two checkboxes underneath the path field on the broadcast computer you decide ...
... whether all receivers have to adopt the MemoTicker display and functional settings from the transmitter, or are allowed to set them individually on their computers.
... whether all recievers are allowed to enter and edit their own notes in addition to the broadcasted news.
Design your favourite look of MemoTicker:
Select or deselect "Display date/time" or "Display margin" to change the MemoTicker design respectively.
To reset all settings to the default values, click on "Default values".
You complete your settings by clicking on "Save".
MemoTicker 3 can work as a single user application or as a company-wide communication interlocking system. In the latter case it is advisable to establish central administration of the program's functionality, in order to assure a reliable line of communication. The news system should be administrated and serviced by one person or a team. Even MemoTicker computers not connected to the company-wide news system should be attended by the sysop. It is advisable to password-protect the access to the program settings on all MemoTicker computers, in order to avoid unwanted changes by unauthorized persons.
There are two ways to activate the sysop mode:
Computers not defined as recievers: The sysop activates the sysop mode and creates his password on each of these computers individually.
Computers defined as recievers: The sysop activates the broadcast mode and sets the network path to the broadcast computer on each of these computers individually. This password-protects the reciever automatically. He creates his password on the broadcast computer administrated by him. From this moment on, the password applies for all connected recievers. If the sysop changes the password on the broadcast computer, the change applies for all connected recievers immediately.
Whether the program settings will be adopted from the transmitter, or recievers may create their own notes, will also be set on the broadcast computer only. This applies for all connected recievers from this moment on.
If the sysop decides that all recievers have to adopt the program settings from the broadcast computer, the settings made on the recievers are invalid. They apply again after the sysop switches off the broadcast reciever mode on the respective computer.
If MemoTicker is used as a real-time communication system, news created on a computer defined as the transmitter will be displayed on all computers defined as recievers. Please keep these guidelines in mind:
Enable broadcast reciever mode
The sysop individually activates the broadcast mode and sets the network path to the broadcast computer on each computer designated as reciever. He creates his password on the broadcast computer administrated by him. From this moment on, the password applies for all connected recievers. If the sysop changes the password on the broadcast computer, the change applies for all connected recievers immediately.
It is not necessary to explicitly define a computer as transmitter. Each computer not set as a MemoTicker reciever can do the job.
